Mezzanine package componentsBeam, girder and bar joist design
VertiSpace excels at designing custom wide span mezzanines, minimizing the number of support columns and thereby maximizing the amount of free floor space below. Our structural mezzanine design allows for longer spans and helps to eliminate the “spongy effect” of systems that utilize other steel components, such as roll-formed or c-channel.
| And because we design and manufacture our own girders and steel joists, we can provide you with the most cost effective and efficient solution to your work platform requirements, from one source. |
 | | Column-Beam Connections
When possible, beam over column connections are used. We believe a bearing type connection is more reliable than shear connections, because loads pass directly from beam to column, minimizing the number of load-bearing components. In situations where support beams intersect columns, structural connections are used to resist lateral loading. We utilize grade ASTM A325 strength structural hardware. |

We design column base plates for each job to minimize floor load, with a standard size of 10”x 10”.
All base plates are pre-drilled for ½” diameter concrete stud anchors. Standard columns are 6” x 6” x 3/16” unless specified differently by the design or loads.
Beam-Beam, Joist –Beam or End Girder Connections
Bolted structural connections using ASTM 325 structural bolts are standard for these connections.
An all-beam design would be used in place of bar joists or girders when there are excessive load requirements and/or when the mezzanine depth may restrict clear height under the platform.
Deflection factors can be engineered to suit the application.
